Met Facebook de taal van studenten spreken

Hoe kan Avans er gebruik van maken? Daarover ging het gisteren in Breda tijdens het derde ‘SpotLICht’, een reeks bijeenkomsten georganiseerd door het Leer- en Innovatiecentrum (LIC) van Avans over vernieuwingen in het onderwijs. Brian Godor van de E-learningclub van het LIC kwam uitleg geven over hoe hij Facebook gebruikt om alumni te bereiken.

En hoever kan Avans gaan in zijn interventie in de community? Volgens Godor moet je daar voorzichtig mee zijn. Vooral Amerikanen, Godor is zelf Amerikaan, zijn er heel gevoelig voor als docenten of de school, zich bemoeien met social networks. ‘Facebook is not for professors’, zeggen studenten in Amerika.

‘Ik denk dat Avans social software als Facebook kan gebruiken, maar het moet wel strategisch en tactvol worden ingezet.’ Godor vindt bovendien dat het pas kan werken als Avans ook iets te bieden heeft aan alumni. Een Engelstalige nieuwsbrief bijvoorbeeld. Dan komt er dynamiek op de pagina. Wat de school nooit zou moeten doen is een social network gebruiken om bijvoorbeeld enquêtes te verspreiden. [PM]

21st. century learning skills

De partnership voor 21st. century learning skills heeft onderzocht over welke competenties de huidige studenten zouden moeten beschikken om in de 21ste eeuw als professional te kunnen werken. De meest opvallende:

* Thinking critically and making judgments about the barrage of information
* Solving complex, multidisciplinary, open-ended problems that all workers, in every kind of workplace,encounter routinely
* Creativity and entrepreneurial thinking
* Communicating and collaborating with teams of people across cultural, geographic and language boundaries
* Making innovative use of knowledge, information and opportunities to create new services,processes and products.
* Taking charge of financial, health and civic responsibilities and making wise choices.

Met name nummer 3 Creativiteit en Ondernemerschap vallen me direct op. Ook omdat dit essentiele onderdelen zijn van het verhaal rond de excellente student. In het rapport gaat men echter verder door te stellen dat dit competenties zijn waarover ELKE student/professional zou moeten beschikken.
Dit wordt onderbouwd met de volgende uitspraken:

Tijdens het surfen op een aantal weblogs, kwam ik gisteren deze verwijzing tegen naar Carl Bonk, een professor aan de Universiteit van Indiana en President of SurveyShare Inc. Op zijn weblog presenteerde hij een achttal filmpjes die verschillende Social Cognitive Theory and Self-Efficacy from Albert Bandura

Wie volgt?

"Traditioneel liepen de instellingen voor hoger onderwijs voorop in het aanbod en het gebruik van technologie en functionaliteit. Nu moeten we constateren dat de markt in een aantal opzichten voorloopt en dat de nieuwe functionaliteit via medewerkers en studenten de instellingen binnenkomt".

Dit schrijft Karl Dittrich in het WTR Trendrapport 2008.

De oplossing ligt volgens Dittrich niet in weer een paradigmashift, maar in differentiatie, waarbij het sociale aspect van het onderwijs voor ogen gehouden moet worden.

Werken met interactieve whiteboards, erg handig maar welke toepassingen zijn er nu allemaal? De site elearnr (Logo komt je vast bekend voor ;-) geeft veel tips over mogelijke toepassingen van smartboard technologie.

Zin in school

We hebben zulke filmpjes natuurlijk al vaker gezien, maar een Nederlandstalige versie heeft natuurlijk altijd zijn charmes! Jammer dat het 10 minuten moet duren... waar is de instant pay-off ;-)
